Summerville, S.C. – The BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina Foundation presented a check for $84,700 to The Dorchester Children’s Center at an event here today to honor the group’s tireless commitment to the protecting and supporting children in crisis in Dorchester County, SC.

Dorchester Children’s Center will use this grant to ensure the success of the Direct Clinical Services Program. This program provides a coordinated, evidence-based response to child abuse that reduces trauma and administers treatment to victims and their families.

“I am so proud of the work that we do, but we could not accomplish it without foundations such as the BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina Foundation. We are extremely thankful for the work that they do and their support of our organization.” said Kay Phillips, Ph.D., Executive Director of Dorchester Children's Center.

This was the fourth of seven events that the foundation is hosting in the next several months around the state to present its latest round of grants and honor the recipients in front of education, community, and business leaders along with other dignitaries. Since the Foundation was established in 2003, it has allocated more than $37.8 million to address issues such as childhood health, community health, mental health, obesity, diabetes, nursing and health research, and the increasing need for free medical clinics.
