Supporting Free Clinics

The South Carolina Free Clinic Association supports and advocates for 41 clinics in 47 sites and encourages and supports new clinic development in underserved communities when a need is identified. In addition to primary care, many clinics provide behavioral health services, dental care, ancillary services, and prescription medications.

Each clinic under the SCFCA was able to identify an area where grant funding could increase the number of patients served or services provided. Identifying these gap areas allows clinics to offer more services to more people who need them. Grant funding also supports SCFCA operations and programs to achieve the goals of their strategic plan.

South Carolina Free Clinic Association Looking Forward

The SCFCA has supported 40 clinics in achieving or maintaining their current certification status. Between 2014 and 2015, the clinics were able to serve more people and more than half of those clinics saw an increase in patients. For every dollar spent on a clinic, an estimated $6 of healthcare services will be available to those who need them most.
