The International Academies of Emergency Dispatch granted accreditation to the Greenville County EMS Communication Center. This accreditation recognizes comprehensive implementation and compliance with the Medical Priority Dispatch System (MPDS) and associated 20 Points of Excellence. Only 155 emergency medical dispatch centers worldwide have earned this distinction. Greenville County EMS was also named South Carolina's Largest EMS System of the year.

Greenville County EMS Providing Quality Care

Many emergency room visits can be avoided with patient communication and alternative care. The Greenville County EMS reduced unnecessary use of emergency transport and visits to the emergency room with new triage and follow- up methods, reaching patients during initial calls, before emergency transport is dispatched. Patients living in underserved areas are given quality medical care before they need the emergency room.

Greenville County EMS Looking Forward

Since its inception in 2013, the grant-funded EMS nurse program has saved a total of $1,184,827. Patients in Greenville have come to depend on this quality care program, with some calling 911 and asking specifically for a nurse. The nurses providing 911 triage continue to reach patients in underserved areas and provide care to avoid unnecessary trips to the emergency room.
